Science fiction has us imagine humanoid machines, or an alien-like super intelligence, as the "machines which taketh us over" in the far future.
While not as fantastical, I believe that machines have begun their takeover—through monopolies, rising prices, layoffs, energy and water, land, corruption, drones, corruption.
There are no machines, and there isn't even super intelligence. Instead, we fight an invisible, immovable enemy—for now we may depend on it's mercy, not our strength.
